Posted by janice On January - 8 - 2009

three-stone-settingsBuying an engagement ring is one of the biggest decisions a man will make in his life. The general rule is 2 months salary, but I’ve always thought that was silly. Buying a tasteful an elegant ring doesn’t need to bury the young couple.  Besides, later anniversaries are perfect for upgrading your wifes ring.

When talking engagement rings, I think the most elegant rings are those with the three stone setting.  Below is an example of the type of engagement ring I find beautiful.  Click the link below to see more 3 stone setting rings.

Mommy Necklaces/Nursing Necklaces

Posted by janice On November - 12 - 2008

I love dainty necklaces, but lately I’ve started to hear more and more moms comment on how they’re wearing Mommy necklaces just for peace of mind, nursing or not. Nursing necklaces are more than that… nursing necklace help in reducing pinching, pulling, distracting and other common busy baby problems! Pretty clever, huh? I know that feeling of wishing you hadn’t waited so long to cut baby’s nails. The jewelry is stranded on strong, secure cording, contains nontoxic materials, and includes nifty breakaway closure.

Either way, it will help you wear your necklace with confidence again! Mommy Necklaces & nursing necklace are to be worn while you guessed it! …nursing.

It’s a piece of jewelry that offers peace of mind when worn not to mention the cool tactile and fine motor skills benefits.

Plus they are simply snazzy looking.  No matter what style you choose:

  • Dangling Donuts
  • Posh Donuts
  • Trendy Teardrops
  • Mod Flat Rocks

November Birthstone

Posted by janice On November - 10 - 2008

The November birthstone is Citrine.  The citrine is the perfect stone for November, reflecting the beauty of the changing colors in the leaves. The citrine is a quartz stone that comes in numerous shades of orange, yellow, and red.

The citrine is also the anniversary stone for the 13th year of marriage.

Lore of the Citrine Gemstone

  • Citrine was carried as a protective talisman against the plague, bad skin and evil thoughts.
  • Used as a charm against snake bytes and venom.
  • Yellow and orange citrine gems were said to protect it’s wearer from dangers when traveling, to send away evil, and to keep safe from sickness.
  • Relieve depression, fear and gives the wearer success in life.
  • Merchants would often place a citrine in the cash drawer, to work as a magnet for sales.  It was referred to as the “Merchant Stone”.

The citrine gemstone is still used today by holistic practitioners as a tool to stimulate general healing as well as removing toxins from the body and to treat muscular disorders.

Birthstones & Their History

Posted by janice On November - 7 - 2008

Months have been represented by many different gemstones, depending on time, place and tradition. The chart below is far from comprehensive, but it will give you some idea of the choices that you have for birthstones for the month of your birth.. Opal and tourmaline Aquamarine Coral Beryl Aquamarine Beryl, Apache tear, aquamarine, coral, obsidian, topaz. The Book of Exodus describes how the Lord described breastplate that was to be worn by Aaron, the brother of Moses and High Priest, when he went before the Lord.

The Breastplate of Aaron is typically regarded as the origin of the concept of birthstones. It wasnt until the mid1500s that people began to wear gemstones to attract luck, protection and other qualities connected to the gems.

According to the history of birthstones begins with the ancient Israelites. Always mystics, the Hebrews of the Old Testament ascribed signs and portents and symbolism’s to many things. Emerald Agate Pearl Agate Agate Agate, chrysoprase, citrine, moonstone, pearl and white sapphire Pearl and moonstone Emerald Pearl Agate Carnelian Emerald, moonstone, pearl, and ruby Ruby Onyx Sapphire Onyx Carnelian Onyx, carnelian, sardonyx, golden topaz, and tourmaline Peridot Carnelian Ruby Carnelian Sardonyx Carnelian, jade, jasper, moss agate, and blue sapphire. Unless you dont like garnets…

Indian Ayurvedic tradition has its own system of gemstones for the birth months, as did the Romans, the Polish, the Arabic and the Italian. And if you don’t find any official reasoning, there’s absolutely nothing preventing you from wearing it just because you like it. The ancients believed that the powers of gemstone were held by and unleashed through the color of the stone.

The Book of Exodus describes how the Lord described breastplate that was to be worn by Aaron, the brother of Moses and High Priest, when he went before the Lord. In yet another culture, the month and Zodiac sign are less important than the day of the week. The ancients believed that the powers of gemstone were held by and unleashed through the color of the stone. Thus in one culture, the stone that represents is garnet. At the same time, other cultures were developing similar traditions concerning gemstones.

Types of Engagement Rings

Posted by janice On November - 7 - 2008

There are as many types of engagement rings as there are brides.  When purchasing an engagement ring it should reflect both the bride and the groom.

The engagement ring tradition began in the 1400′s.  Two months salary is what jewelers and many experts suggest an engagement should cost.  Don’t buy into this nonsense.  In these economic times, there are more important things than a rock you can’t afford.  Plus, you can always upgrade your ring later.

When choosing a diamond, always take notice of the 4C’s.

  • Carat
  • Cut
  • Clarity
  • Color

Here are some of the most popular engagement ring styles:

Antique Engagement Rings

If you’re looking for an antique or heirloom engagement ring, the best place to start is the groom and potential fiance’s family.

Antique and heirloom rings are by far the most unique and come in a wide variety of styles.  Every era has a distinct and different style, including Victorian (1835-1900), Edwardian (1900-1920), and Art Deco (1930).

Canary Diamond Engagement Rings

Canary diamonds are among the rarest type of yellow diamonds.  A canary diamond is not just a yellow gem, it is one with a bright, pure shade and no hints of green, brown, or red to darken the stone.

Diamonds of all color are symbolic of love, commitment, and timelessness.  Adding yellow symbolizes cheerfulness, overwhelming joy, prosperity (as associated with gold), and general happiness.

Celtic Engagement Rings

With no beginning and no end, Celtic knots represent infinity and the unending love that binds two people. One popular knot has been dubbed the lover’s knot  because it resembles two intertwined infinity symbols, and it is a favored choice for engagement and wedding rings. Other intricate looping knots are believed not only to represent eternal love.
