More sentiment and less cents spent! Today’s bridal shower gifts reflect the more personal and intimate nature showers seem to have. Less emphasis is being put on the dowry side of the bridal shower and more focus is spent (pun intended) on the personal connection one has with the bride and/or groom.
Handmade Gifts
Keeping with the personal connection theme, many bridal shower guests are turning to making their own gifts. Traditionally, bridal shower gifts are items meant to be used in the bride’s home, but with Americans buying gifts for both the shower and the wedding, those items are usually saved for the registry. Therefore, bridal shower gifts tend to be moderately priced. Handmade gifts, too, tend to be more heartfelt and practical, something the bride will appreciate more in the long run. Be careful, though, not to slap the present together. If it’s meant to be personal, than the effort should be there. Even helping organize parts of the shower, like the bridal shower games, can be viewed as your contribution to her party. Some creative handmade bridal shower items have included handwritten notes, paintings and photo albums of the present giver and the bride-to-be.
Combining Resources
Many of today’s brides already have the basics needed to run their home (i.e pots and pans, dishes, utensils, etc.) and therefore guests have turned to giving gift certificates, spa packages, girls night out coupons, etc. Brides will appreciate being able to spend time with friends and family together while still feeling pampered and special. Wine tasting trips or dinners at favorite restaurants are all relatively inexpensive when bought as a group and many times they will give deep discounts (see Groupon).
Looking to buy a bridal shower gift without breaking the bank may seem difficult, but buying a gift with another guest, making a special inexpensive memory or taking the bride out to a night on the town are all great ways to inexpensively shower her and make her feel special.
